Thoughts on the Law

Thoughts on the Law

A beloved brother sent us an email today, and I thought to post it here for the viewing of all who visit.

I thought it good to write to you and to share a thought related to your going to Israel and your labours with the Jews. ...something finally came clear to me about the NT and the law of Moses. The law of moses 1st needs to be isolated from the time period before it. In the time before the law we see righteous men lived: Able, Noah (with whom God made a covenant), Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, etc. In them we see the righteousness of God manifested WITHOUT THE LAW OF MOSES. That these men were righteous without the law (namely before it was given, or Moses lived), is borne witness of in the books of the law, and in the books of the prophets. Even the righteousness which is by faith in Christ. Now consider that GOD made an everlasting covenant with Abraham 430 years before the covenant made with Moses. That cov. made with Abe was refered to as the gospel being preached to Abraham. And is said to have been confirmed by God in Christ.(Gal. 3:17). If you read of this in Genesis 17 "Christ" made a covanant to be the God of Abe and his seed after him. So, apart from the law all this was done. His righteousness was attained to through faith in Moshiach, with the gospel being preached to him. So in the same way are NT believers justified: namely through faith in Yeshua without the law. YES all the law. We don't have it written in stone to reveal our sin (the law being for the wicked), but in our hearts. We are not seeking to bring souls under the yoke of Moses' law but under the Yoke or Abraham our father. the same yoke that rested on all those who were righteous before/ without the law. You must utterly divide the 2 covenants for soundness. If you try to mingle the 2 cov's you get confusion about sabbaths etc. Abe didn't have the Sabbath commandment, nor tsittsits etc. But he was obeying the law written on his heart. shalom.

[addendum sent a little later:]

One verse I referred to, but was amplifying it was Romans 3:20-22... Also perhaps worth considering is that the law was added to the everlasting covenant because of transgression. It was made for the unrighteous among Abraham's seed. 1 Tim.1:9. And as in the case of Moses receiving it on Mt. Sinai, it brought him to the righteousness of faith. This was the end that the law as a means was designed to bring one to. See 2 Cor. 3. Moses' shining face was the righteousness of faith. When he veiled it the Jews couldn't see the end that the law was intended to bring them to, (nor do they see it to this day when Moses is read). Namely to faith in Moshiach, the GOD of Abraham for righteous, even unto the everlasting cov. Since Moshiach the law has so utterly lost its purpose that Paul puts its observance in the catagory or doing service to them who by nature are no gods. Nevertheless, its good if you use it lawfully. I would think that to mean that you use it to manifest someone's sins, that they would then put their trust in Yeshua for righteousness, even as Abraham our father, and all the prophets and righteous men that came after him unto this present hour. Yeshua's speed, Elohim be with you.
